While assisting in developing JSON API's in support of our Ember.js client applications, I single- handedly developed the infrastructure for BeQuick's Connect platform, allowing the capability of rapidly releasing features, creating new environments, and monitoring production environments while using Puppet, Ember-CLI, Ruby, Rails, Splunk, and Amazon's AWS suite of products. Here, I experienced being a technical lead but from the point of view of having to create a fairly sophisticated infrastructure with unique networking requirements while having very little assistance from others.

Web Application Developer

As a technical lead on Lytro's Web team, I maintained the web application, built new features, worked on the infrastructure, built API's for the in-house mobile teams to use, and mentored junior developers in Ruby, Rails, Javascript, CSS and web standards. I spent a great amount of time refactoring older code, but learned what it was like to lead a project toward building new features again.

At Wildfire Interactive (later acquired by Google), I worked on various web applications and services to support our business goals, in a SCRUM based development environment, using Ruby on Rails. This is where I really learned my craft from some great, senior developers that not only mentored me, but taught me how to mentor others.

I developed web applications with Ruby on Rails for various clients, focusing mainly on Project and Engineering Management applications for the US Navy. I had some great mentors that gave me my big break in software development and in return I gave them a massive amount of domain knowledge of the Navy maintenance system that I had accumulated during my years in the Navy.

I was a member of the Security Monitoring and Containment Team. I handled Malware analysis duties, training, and acted as a level 2 responder. I spent a good amount of time writing Ruby scripts to discover systems inside Bank of America's network that were infected with viruses. This is when I really fell in love with Ruby.

I served as a Surface Warfare Officer with Nuclear training aboard an amphibious transport docking ship and a nuclear powered aircraft carrier. During this time, I drove a 30,000 ton warship, operated the S5W and A4W nuclear plants and led divisions of between 5 and 40 military personnel.

I'm a freelance mobile and web developer with a strong passion for helping big ideas change the world through technology.

I have nearly a decade of experience developing mobile applications, web applications, JSON API's, services, and scripts with Ruby, and Ruby on Rails.  I've worked with Javascript and derived frontend technologies such as React.js, Ember.js, jQuery, and Backbone. I'm also proficient in CSS3/HTML5.  I test-drive my code with RSpec and occasionally with Cucumber.  I also have extensive DevOps experience with Puppet, Chef, and Amazon's AWS products.
